I'm only checking this DVD out just for the Cast Reunion special and that's my ONLY reason. This season really dropped the ball BIG TIME. Objectively the Worst Final Season I have seen to a show next to Dexter and Lost. It's such a shame that this great show had to be devalued because of how the final season played out. All of the characters, lore and world-building thrown out of the window because D&D sold this show for cheap shock value because they believe that's what makes a good story, when it's really not. Subverting expectations can be used in a positive way if you build up to it properly, but if you use it just to shock audiences because you want to surprise them with something they never would've expected without building up to it, it ruins everything. The writing was just absurd. I have never seen so many characters ruined this badly that quickly. These were well respected and loved character of 10 years. For the writers to destroy all of their main characters narrative arcs like that with no build up is enraging. I ADORED these characters. Spent time discussing how complex some of them were and how amazing their individual plot lines were. It's safe to say that I have studied for more lore and history of the show and books more than I studied for any paper in school. I willingly took time to study each character to better build an likeable theory for where their stories could potentially end. Yet ALL of the characters have betrayed themselves in way so shocking, even the actors don't seem convinced when delivering their own lines. I've only been invested for about 4 years unlike the millions who've been on this journey since day one, yet I feel hurt by this debacle. Other than that, writing flaws were all over the place with this season. Consistency? Drained. Continuity? Non-Existent. Hotel? Trivago It's like no one really cared. With Starbucks cups, Water Bottles and continuity with hair, makeup and costuming (Despite the latter 3 all looking fantastic, they don't match the context of some scenes). Passive aggressive lines from the showrunners that come off downright insulting to the show and audiences intelligence ("She kinda forgot." REALLY?!), logic was nowhere in sight and dialogue was just awkward. And that's not even HALF of the problems 6 episodes were clearly not enough to wrap this story up properly, but I'll give credit where it's really well deserved..... -The Acting was Top Notch. Got to hand it to the cast for acting the heck out of it with this horrible script. Especially Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) who did the best she could to sell what they did with her character. Such a shame that some of their strongest actors went to waste. And when I say that, I mean Lena Headey (Cersei), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Ian Glen (Jorah) and Conleth Hill (Varys). Also gotta say, Kit Harington (Jon Snow) might be the most expensive extra on the show this season (Man repeated the same 2 lines basically every single episode, sorry). -Music is as beautiful as always. Ramin Djawadi deserved that Emmy. I will buy that soundtrack just because the music has always been amazing. -Cinematography was Jaw-Dropping and impressive as always. A technical acheievment for TV really with the cinematography. Everyone who worked behind the scenes deserves any praise and or award for making everything look great (aside from the lighting manager from episode 3) Can I recommend this show knowing how it ends? No. If I would recommend any person to watch I'd tell they to stop at the end of S6 and maybe a few of the first few episodes of S7. I'll recommend some better TV Drama's way more worth the time, such as... -Breaking Bad -The Sopranos -Better Call Saul -Boardwalk Empire -Homeland -House of Cards -The Crown -Mad Men -The Americans Thank You.
