This book was hilarious and I think that it was advantageous to hear the author read it, as opposed to reading it in print. Somehow Sedaris takes very dark situations and turns them into funny stories. Having said this, a warning is warranted: This book has many short sections that are simply downright sad (e.g., aging father, alcoholic mother, sister committed suicide), not humorous. Overall, however, it's a treat and laugh out loud funny. I listened on my commute and actually wanted to keep driving. I have read several of his books and sometimes the topics get a bit raunchy for my taste. Calypso was less so, I thought. This book presented what I felt was a poignant look at the author's family members, who are simultaneously bizarre and lovable. I look forward to his next release.
