This book is very dark. More violent than I usually like, but I think it was necessary given the story it was telling. Schwab does an excellent job of developing a strong flawed heroine fighting her inner demons. Kate isn't necessarily somebody you want to be, but she's definitely somebody you want to learn about. I wasn't as interested in August in this book as I was in This Savage Song. He definitely takes a back seat to Kate in Our Dark Duet, and he has changed quite dramatically in the interim. I can't exactly say I loved reading this book, but I was fascinated by it and it kept me turning the pages. Definitely for more mature readers though.
