What I Learned From a Remarkable Bird

Tom Michell reminds me of James Herriot, and not just because they both wrote about animals. Their styles are similar. Both writers are sentimental without being sappy. Both are skilled at characterization. And both find humor in everyday situations. This is a special book, and the amusing illustrations and touching snippets of poetry add to its charm.
