It seems like Birmingham put so much energy into describing, in excruciating detail the "hows" of the military action that he didn't have much left for anything else, such as plot or character development. Also, I think it would have been helpful had he included a glossary of military terms to help those of us who haven't served in the US military understand what the heck he's talking about. I was quite disappointed with this book, especially since "Without Warning" (the book that came before this one) was so good.
