I'm happy that George Lucas (and editors) revised the story that ultimately became Star Wars: A New Hope. This is fun science fiction, but it is a bit rushed in certain elements, focusing more on the War part of Star Wars than on the Force, or the development of characters at all. Annikin Starkiller, separate from Darth Vader, goes from brash, impulsive, and flirtatious to a burgeoning acolyte to a Force wielder in only a handful of panels. Similarly, his relationship with Leia blossoms far too quickly to make sense. The mystery of the Force, the legacy of the Jedi, and the animosity between Sith and Jedi feel like footnotes to the war. I think it's worth a read, but don't be too surprised if you read it, return it, and then immediately watch A New Hope to wash the taste from your mouth.
