When 16-year-old Seth Wearing drowns, he doesn’t expect to wake up again, especially not in a long-abandoned English neighbourhood. The world is empty and deserted, except for a strange creature that drives a black van. Is this the afterlife? Where is everyone, and what happened to make them all abandon this world? Is he in hell? Or is he part of something bigger, something more? More Than This is a mind-bending thrill ride of a book. It’s complex, raw, unique and touching in its own powerful way. Ness crafts a beautiful story and delves into the topics of love, abuse, difficult choices and the truth about reality, in a way no other YA novel would dare. Emotional, intense, mystifying, and at times, terrifying, More Than This is an expertly written exploration into what it really means to be alive. 5/5 - @Apis of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library More Than This follows the story of a boy who died. He wakes up and doesn’t know who he was or where he is. I really wish I could explain the story a little better than this but that would reveal some of the plot in the book. However, I can assure you that this book is a good read. The character development is very interesting, the setting is mysterious and intriguing and the pacing is expertly managed. Patrick Ness is extremely proficient at managing the paces of his books, not dumping too much information on you at once, yet not giving you so little you lose interest. Overall, More Than This is a very interesting book and definitely worth your time if you enjoyed some of the other titles written by Patrick Ness. 4/5 stars - @Fulton of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
