Odd Apocalypse

An Odd Thomas Novel
Aug 20, 2014TanayaF rated this title 3 out of 5 stars
It has been a while since I have read previous Odd Thomas books, but I have always retained the character in my head. Odds' humor, behavior, and commentary were always present. At the start of reading this, I quickly realized this is not Odd Thomas. Koontz has fallen into the "Mary Sue" of writing, himself and his political and religious beliefs have tainted Odd in ways that I do not remember him being tainted. Whether his character had progressed far beyond what I remember from the start of the series to now, remains unknown. But, I do not like what Koontz has turned Odd into, which is himself. Overall the story was decently paced, with enough information about the previous few novels dispersed in between Odd's (odd) remarks about politicians and God (I don't remember him being so political or religious but... I digress). The plot was within the realm of other Odd Thomas novels, not too far fetched for what the fry-cook was used to dealing with, but with enough of a new edge to keep it interesting.
