I loved this trilogy until I got to this book, where it all seemingly fell apart. Alera is no longer strong and independent. She doesn't do much of anything in this book. She depends on Narian to do everything for her. Shaselle just causes trouble again and again. There was supposed to be action but Alera and Shaselle weren't part of it because Alera wouldn't take control over anything and Shaselle kept ignoring the instructions of people that know way better than her. This book ruined the series for me. :(
