OK, so this book abides by all the old(ish) school conventions and features a disgustingly high-handed hero and a not-as-independent-as-she-thinks-she-is heroine. In other words, you kind of want to slap one or the other of them at each turn of the plot. On top of that it is incredibly fluffy, with several subplots that are not subplots so much as rivers of syrupy sentiment. But all that being said, it is better written than most of its kind, and gets things done with a minimum of cringe-inducing moments. Certainly a successful romance novel, and I did enjoy it.
