This is a period romance, I read one called steamy, perhaps but definitely clean and God centered. I could not put this down nor could I resist reading about the other members of the O'Connor family. This is the first book of the saga. Faith is a surviving twin, a victim of polio. She has developed a deep abiding faith in God which is put to the test as she sees her younger sister snag the man she had longed for since high school. There is a marked difference between sisters Faith, quiet and God centered and Charity, who uses her extraordinary beauty to manipulate and lie whenever she wants something, including Faith's hoped for man. There are twists and turns galore and I found myself constantly emotionally up and down throughout the book. Once involved with this family, which is easy to do as the character development is deep and full, I had to know more about the rest of the family. This first of the series starts before and includes WWI. A wonderful window into the history and life of the early 1900's. I loved the history, the family, the faith of authentic people and yes, the romance. Will there be a happily ever after? It makes you wonder. A must read for all three books of this series!
