The stereo type role reversals in this book add to the experience reading it. He's the 40 something married man with kids, yet he's the liberal. She's the tattooed 25 year old single woman, rebel child of the establishment and she's the Republican. Together with a supporting cast of "Cousin John" and "Garfield's Nermal", they travel across 20 states in a month driving a air conditioning challenged RV. The conflict points are obvious, yet somehow, the book routinely surprises when the two extreme voices overlap and find unexpected common ground. Perhaps the entire planet would be better served if every 4 years the Republican and Democratic candidates were forced to take a one month road trip together before they began campaigning. Funny, insightful, well worth reading.
