Except for a few years, this is the time I lived in the Bay Area. One can live in a city and not know the 1/2 of what is going on. It's the nature of any place. There are secrets, misinformation, and missing information, even if one tries to pay close attention. And what we read in the newspapers is only one viewpoint.
Talbot's book fills in a lot of those gaps in extreme detail. The kidnapping of Patty Hearst, and the killing of George Moscone and Harvey Milk were national news items. Those of us who lived in San Francisco at the time, thought we knew a lot of what was going on, but there was something more insidious which we may have missed.
This is a look at San Francisco warts and all. It was a heady time.
