Not for the squeamish or easily offended, this movie could be the poster child for Science Gone Wrong. It's like that multi-vehicle collision we slow down to gawk at on the highway, or the building on fire that we watch, open-mouthed, as it burns to the ground: horrifying, yet fascinating. Dren, as she progresses from innocent hatchling to--well, you'll see--evokes pity, wonder, and dread...sometimes within the same breath. On the surface, this movie is a debacle of the demented, a train wreck of twisted minds. However, it does raise some interesting questions about the boundaries of human intervention in the natural world...and the price we're willing to pay for exceeding them.
