This is a very good novel. Newly widowed Emmy finds some notes and love letters in the margins of some books she is sorting. Various circumstances draw her to Folly Beach - the source of the notes. She is able to determine that the notes were written during WW2 and the relatives of the note-writers are still around. The best character is Lulu, who is now the family's beloved, cranky and eccentric seventy-seven year old Aunt, but in 1942 she was a nine-year old with a fascination for Nancy Drew . This means she folowed people and found out more than any nine-year old should know. The narrative weaves back and forth between the present (well 2009) and 1942. Mystery and romance combine in this enjoyable novel.
