You cannot read the Jack Ryan series in the order published. It is MUCH better to read them in the chronological order. This is the third book chronologically, but the 4th of the series I have read. I thought this was the worst so far. At the beginning of the book you find out that the KGB is mad at someone because of some letter they wrote. However, you do not find out who wrote the letter or what they said until page 87. Parts of this book went down like glass. It did get better about two-thirds of the way through. I am not kidding when I say that I almost returned the book before I was halfway through it. I've said it before and I will say it again; I do not really like Jack Ryan. I wish that Clancy would do a series focusing on John (Kelly) Clark or the Foleys. They are MUCH more interesting. I only say that this is suitable for 17+ because I do not think that anyone younger than that could follow the book.
