Pretty good, but I like the first one better 👍

Special effects: good but far too many. Music and lyrics - I could not hum or sing a single song from this musical. Mary is as warm as a drill sergeant. Ccolin firth tried to ham up is part, but Ben Whishaw and even Emily Mortimer mailed their parts in... I can still sing songs from the original movie which I saw in a theatre 55 years ago. The best parts for me were the tiny fragments of the original songs which you could hear for a few bars if you listened closely. Loved Meryl Streep singing as a wacko Russian. What a hoot to see Dick Van Dyke return as the bank manager and still dance at the age of 94. Angela Lansbury ( also 94 ) was fun as the balloon sales person. Compared to the first version this one is one star while the original is a 5. Sorry, simply adding more special effects does not a better movie make. A musical needs songs that you sing or hum as you leave the theatre. This version has none. I have almost never found a remake of a concept / film better than the original. If you are not going to make a better film, skip it and reissue the original in theatres. Very disappointed. I hope children like it, though another reviewer said her child found Mary frightening. She's quite mean in this one.

I found Emily Blunt a charming continuation of Julie Andrew's Mary Poppins. She got the sass, conceit and spunk just right. This was a sequel that left me with no hard feelings, which is saying a lot!

VERY GOOD 2018 sequel to 1964 GREAT Mary Poppins film. This IS a quality Disney effort with an excellent cast and fine production.
I especially enjoyed the upside down room sequence with Meryl Streep as Topsy (who is supposed to fix the bowl the kids broke) - and the large scale dance sequence with all those lamplighters.

now there's 1.5 hours I'll never get back-the reason it isn't the full running time of the movie is because after the first couple of songs I started fast forwarding past ANY singing done by the main characters. Storyline was almost the same as the original and seeing Poppins staring into reflective surfaces and primping her hair got to be very tiresome. Also the little phrases, spit spat, flip flop etc...were annoying. I'm sure Emily Blunt would have done much better with a better script and director-she was one of the reasons I wanted to watch this since I like a lot of her other work. It was nice to see Dick Van Dyke dance on a desk...but it's near the end so you have to go through all the muddiness until you get there.

A little disappointing, but you can't match a classic. Not even the animation could hold a candle to the animation of old. It definitely has a totally different attitude then Mary Poppins. I prefer the innocents of old rather then this more adult content. It seems Disney just stung together parts of other recent children productions with a few changes. I miss the first Mary Poppins because of her strength and not this one with her self absorbed entitlement.

Enjoyed the movie plus the way they did not make a sequel. Mary Poppins return was definitely a movie that stood on it's own. I remember watching the first one when I was a child and I liked the way this movie is about the next generation of people.

A well-done sequel that stayed true to the spirit of the original, with a good cast and story. The songs were fine but not as memorable as the ones in the original. It was a very long movie but worth the time.

40 quotes already in IMDb. Thanks to the contributors. Like to add these two related to the film's best song "The Place Where Lost Things Go":

Oh, listen to the three of you. You're all worrying far too much. After all, you can't lose what you've never lost.
Nothing's gone forever, only out of place. So when we need her touch and loving gaze "Gone but not forgotten" is the perfect phrase. Smiling from a star
that she makes glow. Trust she's always there... Watching as we grow. Find her in the place... Where the lost things go...
