They rose from genteel poverty, two beautiful sisters, ambitious, witty, seductive. Elinor and Lucy Sutherland are at once each others fiercest supporters and most vicious critics. Lucy transformed herself into Lucile, the daring fashion designer who revolutionized the industry with her flirtatious gowns and brazen self-promotion. And when she married Sir Cosmo Duff-Gordon her life seemed to be a fairy tale. But success came at many coststo her marriage and to her children. Then, one fateful night, the Titanic strikes an iceberg and scandal follows. Elinor writes as Elinor Glyn, and her novels are so shocking no one admits to reading them... but everybody does. And when she travels to the glittering new world of Hollywoood she becomes a worldwide celebrity. But although she writes of passion, the true love she longs for eludes her. But despite quarrels and misunderstandings, distance and destiny, there is no bond stronger than that of the two sisters, confidants, friends, rivals and the two "It Girls".

The It Girls by Karen Harper is a rather interesting book which uses the simple idea of a rivalry that can be comparable to today's standards of how women are viewed and the misfortune of the fame and glamour that many desire. This book focuses on two girls, Elinor and Lucy, as they both grow up together. They quite obviously do not like each other, always "fighting". As this is set in the 1800s, the two girls grow up to be homemakers that soon desire a better career, but as they grow their seeming charm and fame is overshadowed by the many poor decisions that they mad throughout the story. This is definitely an interesting story but can be rather dragged out with definitely overbearing moments. But if you are looking for a story with a great bit of history this is the book for you!
