Add a CommentA "Wonder" for the younger set. Beautiful reminder we are all unique and special and should be valued by each other as such.
Beautiful picture book based on the original story "Wonder". Great option if you little ones are too little for original book.
This book is a wonderful read. I don't care how old you are this book should be read by everyone. This book has such a strong message and only kind of made me cry. Everyone needs to read it and become as accepting as Auggie is.
"Look with kindness and you will always find Wonder" is a fantastic message that everyone should practice and share.
I checked out this book because I was excited to teach my class about congenital anomaly and bodily difference. I am incredibly disappointed with how poorly the author handles the subject.
The text on the back reads "I know I can't change the way I look. BUT maybe, just maybe, people can change the way they see."
1) A book that is truly about embracing bodily difference would not have a main character interested in changing their appearance. They would love themselves for being themselves.
2) It is not the job or duty of disabled people or people with extraordinary bodies to TEACH nondisableds how to see. It is not our job to help nondisableds feel good about themselves. We exist in our own right. We are not a "teachable moment", we are living, breathing people.
There are so many shortcomings to this book, and subtle but harmful messages. This is a terrible introduction to disability. I do not recommend this book to anyone.
The beautiful, eternal theme of choosing kind is highlighted in Palacio's companion piece to 'Wonder'. Younger readers can meet Auggie and celebrate the uniqueness in everyone. When we are kind to one another, we can see that we are indeed all wonders, and that is truly magical.
I love a well-written story, fun/colorful/thoughtful illustrations, matched with an iconic character. It's no wonder this one has topped the charts for the bestsellers. And most importantly, it has a simple to understand yet powerful message. Highly recommend for all! Even those that haven't read the book.
every person should read this book! uplifting!!! My favorite line was: "I know I can't change the way I look. But maybe, just maybe...people can change the way they see. If they do, they'll see that I'm a wonder. And they'll see that they're wonders too!"
Love this one for storytime and for elementary school age kids :D
Excellent! A Wonder of a Book for all ages! A great picture book to accompany the fabulous chapter book for older students, Grade 5 & older.
