During the bloodiest battle of WWII, in Okinawa, Desmond Doss saved 75 men without firing or carrying a gun. He was the only American soldier in WWII to fight on the front lines without a weapon, as he believed that while the war was justified, killing was nevertheless wrong. As an army medic, he singlehandedly evacuated the wounded from behind enemy lines, braved fire while tending to soldiers and was wounded by a grenade and hit by snipers. Doss was the first conscientious objector to ever earn the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Excellent portrayal of a man, who against all odds because he was a conscientious objector during WWII in the Pacific became a tremendous hero to those he saved.

A great movie very enjoyable to watch

The realism of the bloody conflict is difficult to watch. It is an excellent story, very well told, and I suspect very accurate.

An important and compelling film but it was difficult to watch.

Mel Gibson directs a winner! A true story from World War 11 that is fascinating to watch. After you finish the movie check out a website on the internet for a more complete history of the events on Hacksaw Ridge. It turns out to be more amazing than even the movie portrays!

Hacksaw ridge is a world war two movie that follows a combat medic who is a conscious objector. That means that he refuses to even touch a gun or weapon. The movie follows his entrance into the military and the hardships that he has to face to pass the training and be allowed to participate in the war. The movie has many well done action scenes that realistically portray battles in the war. The entire movie is based around a true story and most of the things that are shown in the movie actually happened in real life to Desmond T. Doss. He commends the movie in its accurate portrayal of his experiences. Overall a fantastic film and worth a watch. I rate this movie 5 out of 5.

Violence: Gruesome, realistic depictions of battle, death, and Japanese harikari (suicide as an honorable act). Also emotional and physical abuse/beatings of the conscientious objector.

Mar 10, 2017

Frightening or Intense Scenes: In addition to a ton of nasty war violence, there is a scene early on of a man's leg graphically injured in an accident. A young man's parents fight; one holds a gun and seems to contemplate turning it on himself. Boys brawl and one is hit with a brick.

Mar 10, 2017

Sexual Content: A soldier's naked rear is visible as he lounges in the barracks before being forced to run the obstacle course. Bunkmates rib him about his anatomy. Another man is reading a magazine with a drawing of a topless woman. A married couple kisses passionately.

Mar 10, 2017

Violence: Here's where the movie gets the R. I saw it in theaters and had to look away several times. Relentless wide shots of shooting, maiming, and killing during the last half, and numerous close-ups of nasty injuries being treated.

Mar 10, 2017

Coarse Language: Occasional, relatively mild language. No f-bombs.

Tons of quotes in IMDb already but this one:
I've done everything they asked me, except this one thing, and I'm being treated like a criminal just 'cause I won't kill.
-You tried. Nobody can say you didn't. But who are you going to save in prison?
Probably nobody.
-Then why can't you just pick up the stupid gun and wave it around? You don't have to use it, just meet them halfway.
-I can't do that.
Yes, you can. It's just pride. Pride and stubbornness. Don't confuse your will with the Lord's.
-Have I been prideful?
Maybe I am prideful. But I don't know how I'm going to live with myself if I don't stay true to what I believe. Much less how you could live with me. I'd never be the man that I want to be in your eyes.
-I fell in love with you because you weren't like anyone else and you didn't try to be. Do not think for one moment that you will disappoint me. I will love you no matter what.
