Recognized by multiple generations, as well as a cross-section of society, Elvis Presley holds a permanent place in American and World music history. Elvis Presley is an American icon that ushered in a music revolution that triggered a global cultural transformation. "Lives On!" Showcases the Elvis phenomena, and how the "King" controversially gave birth to Rock and Roll, in an era of conservatism and conformity. This enthralling documentary features rarely seen footage of Elvis performing in concert and in Las Vegas, accompanied by a stunning sound track. Hysterical fans attending his movies and concerts, paint the picture of a man that had truly arrived before his time. At the height of this career Elvis was called upon to serve in U.S. Army. Upon his arrival in Germany, he was greeted by thousands of fans. Elvis was permitted to live off base with his family during his tour in Germany, and one night an army buddy invited a young girl named Priscilla Beaulieu to the house. It was love at first sight when Elvis met the girl that would one day be his wife. For Priscilla, dating Elvis Presley was a dream come true. But the romance came to an abrupt end only a few months after it began, as Elvis' tour of duty was over. When he returned to the U.S.A after serving his country - he returned an even bigger star than when he had left. Even though he had spent two years without making a record or a public appearance, Elvis still ruled the record charts. In a bid to transform his image to reach an even greater audience, he launched into Hollywood movies. It was a masterstroke. Audiences enthusiastically received Presley, and the films were a great platform to promote his soundtrack albums. Seven years after Elvis first met Priscilla, he proposed. The wedding ceremony took place at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas and took less than ten minutes. Two months later it was announced that Priscilla was pregnant. But after the arrival of their daughter Lisa Marie, the relationship broke down. Some years later, they held hands during their divorce proceedings; and remained friends. But a heavy movie-making schedule and constant touring took its toll on the health of Elvis, and he became dependant on prescription medication. By 1971, Elvis was on the road more than most other acts in show business. He would tour for three weeks at a time, taking no days off and doing two shows on Saturdays and Sundays. Elvis and his entourage would arrive in a city and depart again in less than 24 hours. Sadly, Elvis Presley died on August 16th, 1977 in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion - he was just 42 years old. The world was shocked as Elvis "left the building" for the last time - with thousands of mourners gathering in Memphis, Tennessee to mourn the King of Rock n' Roll. And they continue to do so to this day, every year on the anniversary they commemorate his death. Elvis lives on through his daughter Lisa-Marie, who recently released her first album, and fans all around the world that participate in Elvis Presley look-alike competitions. Elvis' music and persona still inspires artists all around the world. He gave the world a revolutionary musical style; he broke down barriers; and continues to inspire millions to this day.
