No one has set foot on Earth in centuries — until now.Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth's radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents — considered expendable by society — are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life...or it could be a suicide mission.CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did. WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves — but will she ever forgive him? This is exactly what you would expect from dystopian YA fiction. It's a neat concept. The pacing is a bit slower than I prefer as well as focusing on romantic relationships a lot. That being said I am excited to read the next one and learn more about the world.

Note: The TV series is only very loosely based on the books so there are surprises and many different characters etc.

This is not a good book. 90% of it is flashbacks and half those flashbacks revolve around a story ark which is completely nonessential to the plot. And more than half of the present timeline plot space seems to be spent from the perspective of characters still up on the colony. Barely anything actually happens in this book and what does is not even happening on earth. I have read the first three books in the series if Morgan had just cut out the nonessential plot points, the first three books could be one. I don't intend to read the fourth book because it doesn't seem worth it. While there actually was some action in the third book, it wasn't enough. I think this was a fantastic idea for a series but terribly executed and should have been severely edited before being published. I would not recommend it.

I read this book because I’m blazing through the TV series and am hooked. If you like the TV show (Which despite my prolific speed of binge watching it I sometimes do and sometimes don’t...some of the writing in the show gets to me and my husband with too many stupid decisions made by main characters and too many failed plans) this may not be the book for you. It has very little to do with the TV show (at least book 1, I’ve not read the others yet). Only four characters from the book made it to the show. Once I realized that I just read it as it’s own entity. It’s pretty “teeny” with the focus on romance, but I liked the past and present stories mingling and I still really like the premise (which is why I started to watch the show in the first place and is why I wanted to read the book when I discovered it was a book). It wasn’t amazing but I’m willing to read the other books in the series to see where the author goes with it all which is why I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 2. Book 1 ends with a cliff hanger and much left unanswered.

This book was amazing, I hardly could put it down! The people are amazing and everything about it was so real, it made me smile, laugh, frown and I felt like i was there standing next to everyone. I love this book, that's the best way to put it.
