If people did not like how it ends it could be because it’s not necessarily a happy ending and is one that leaves you guessing what really happened to one of the main characters. I loved the book! I thought it was extremely clever and had great development.

Didn't really know how many * to give this novel. It's well written and should rank amongst his best. But....I hated the ending so much that I'm not sure that I will read any more of his work.
My favorite! Such intense twists.
Wow. Great read, surprising ending. Grisham knows how to do twists and turns for sure!
Great twist in the book until the last few pages and then I couldn't believe it! Not a great way to end the book in my thinking.
Fast and furious, constantly evolving and twisting. A real page turner. One of his best.
Despite Grisham's reputation as tops in his field, this one doesn't quite measure up. The story proceeds in a linear, fairly predictable fashion, as layer by layer the protagonist's supposed guilt for grand larceny and murder get peeled away, leaving not very much and the book ends with a whimper rather than a bang. Also unforgiveable for a writer of Grisham's stature are several glaring plot flaws, including an assertion that Lanigan managed to be making over 8% on wise investments of money that was at the time being moved on a daily basis from bank to bank and country to country via wire transfers to stay one step ahead of his pursuers. Strokes of unbelievable luck also helped, including stumbling upon a very old man with no family, ready to conveniently die at just the right moment.
Plainly put, Grisham is no match for the likes of Frederick Forsythe.
An OK read, certainly didn't bore me but wasn't as page turning as I thought.
This was a re-read for me. I don't think this is as good as The Runaway Jury but it's definitely an entertaining read. It's fast-paced and it's full of surprised. Sure, you have to put your credibility aside, but that's a small price to pay.
As usual, Grisham is great (and handsome).
The end of the story was a surprise. What a shock!
