Since its immediate success in 1813, Pride and Prejudice has remained one of the most popular novels in the English language. Jane Austen called this brilliant work "her own darling child" and its vivacious heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, "as delightful a creature as ever appeared in print." The romantic clash between the opinionated Elizabeth and her proud beau, Mr. Darcy, is a splendid performance of civilized sparring. And Jane Austen's radiant wit sparkles as her characters dance a delicate quadrille of flirtation and intrigue, making this book the most superb comedy of manners of Regency England.

***SPOILERS***
This book is really famous. And the story is actually really simple: a man fell in love with a girl so he did almost everything he could to help her. The girl, however, prejudged the man and really did not like him. During a bunch of annoying stuff, including family issues, the girl finally got to know the man and found he was actually very kind and had a golden heart. So she fell in love with him and they got married at the end of the book. I read this book at an early age so I can't remember it well. But if asked to, I would give it a 4.5 out of 5.

This is a favorite of mine. I appreciate that both protagonists change through their growing acquaintance and attraction with each other. Each of them overcomes a prejudice they had before they come together. This is contrasted with the other matches that take place during the time the book covers. Are the other characters more knowledgeable of their own personalities? It seems not.
I must confess I am a fan of Ms. Austen's sharp observations of the human condition.

This book was a difficult read for me, but I absolutely love the characters that Austen so clearly portrays in her novel. Full of philosophical and witty moments, this book will have you intrigued by it's incredible plot twists and guessing what will happen next.

Love this book. Gives a girl hope that there is still a possibility for love...even if it is with a fictional character.

I've been meaning to read this book for a very long time now and I was ecstatic to hear that we would be reading it for a class I'm in. One of the most read classics and love stories, I needed to know what the fuss has been all about. This novel is rife with Victorian-style social mannerisms, proper-ness, marriage possibilities, and very unique characters. Indifferent Mr. Bennet. Fluttering and eager Mrs. Bennet. Kind-hearted and sweet Jane. Passionate and head-strong Elizabeth. Intelligent and quiet Mary. Young, carefree and slightly foolish Kitty and Lydia.
Not to mention seemingly proud and superior Mr. Darcy.
Set outside of London, the Bennet family is on the lookout for suitors to fit and compliment the standing of the five young, single, and of-age daughters roaming Longbourn. With the extravagance of balls, the prejudiced rules and opinions of high society, and the overall drama surrounding this time period
It was well written, and while much of the book would nowadays be considered 'filler' and unnecessary, it really contributed to putting the reader in the mindset of how life must have been like at that time. Truly fascinating, and while the hints of the love story don't really begin until half-way through the book, I thought the setting up and the initial relationship between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy to be quite intriguing. I always love a good enemy-turned-love story, and this book did it very well.
One of the best classics I've read, but not for those who easily bore of slower plots.

I finished this book in summer. Amazing, no wonder one of the most famous classic books. Is 11 years old too early to read this book?

From the back cover.
Perhaps her best - loved, certainly her most well - known book, Pride and Prjudice is the classic romantic novel. Romance, misunderstandings, finding Mr. Right and finding out who's Mr. Wrong - Pride and Prejudice is as relevant today as it has ever been.
It's the enchanting and enduring story of Lizzy Bennet, one of literature's most engaging heroines, and proud Mr. Darcy, of true love, families, villains, and heroes and, of couse, pride and prejudice.
