Nursing is more than a career; it is a calling, and one of the most important, fascinating, and dangerous professions in the world. As the frontline responders battling traumas, illnesses, and aggression from surprising sources, nurses are remarkable. Yet contemporary literature largely neglects them. Nurses are heroes. They have to deal with office politics, long shifts and many other obstacles besides providing good care to patients. This book does a good job of showing how difficult it is for health care professionals to simply do their jobs.

The only thing I did not like about this book is that it is written through characters representing real people. It made the book seem fictionalized ( I know that it is not!) I would have been more comfortable with an interview-type book.

Good for any nurses for commiserating. And good to get an insider's view of the profession and of the new medical world including the how government plays a huge part.

I always thought i appreciated nurses but this is quite an eye opener. I don't know how they do it all and it sounds like very little support from employers, coworkers(especially doctors), and difficult patients. I will assuredly be more appreciative in the future.

A must read for all nurses! As well as those who are studying to become a nurse or want to/working in health care.

This nonfiction portrait of a group of hard-working ER nurses is a great way to celebrate an invaluable profession during National Nurses Week or any time year-round.
