George Washington crossed the Delaware in the dead of night. Abraham Lincoln saved the Union. And President William Howard Taft, a man of great stature - well, he got stuck in a bathtub. Now how did he get unstuck? Author Mac Barnett and illustrator Chris Van Dusen bring their full comedic weight to this legendary story, imagining a parade of clueless cabinet members advising the exasperated president, leading up to a hugely satisfying, hilarious finale.

Reviews call this book "hilarious" but to me it seems to highlight the fact that prejudice against fat people still seems to be ok; that society thinks it's still ok to point one's finger at a fat person and laugh. If it were an elderly person stuck in the bath, would that be funny? Why is it funny because fat President Taft is stuck? Is this the best Candlewick Press could do? I am so let down, Candlewick. I expected better from you.

Stick with "King Bidgood's In the Bathtub" by Audrey and Don Woods. You'll be better for it.

Rumor has it that President Taft became stuck in his tub on the first day of office and required several aides to get him out. As a possible urban legend, this picture book imagines the scenario and turns it into a comical situation.
