I think this book makes me feel too down. I love the writing for this book but I don't like how much Sutter drinks. I also don't like how Sutter turns Aimee into a total lush. I give this book 3.5 stars.

This book really does deserve 5 stars, but it's just not a book I can LIKE. Sutter is such a tragic character, and to see things from his point of view was an uncomfortable experience. This isn't a book you can just glide through. It's really tough and painful, and the comic relief he gives somehow makes it even more sad. An amazing and well developed book, but definitely not an easy read, nor is it as lovey-dovey and happy as the movie.

Tim Harp is a great writer. I loved the book. I found the book way better than the movie. This novel is like Catcher In The Rye but a more modern version. Sutter has a interesting mind, and it's exciting to get to know him in the book. However, I wish he ended up with Aimee in the end of the book , but I guess that just would've been too predictable. 5 and a half stars.

I was almost immediately queasy each time I chose to hang out with deluded, self-destructive Sutter Keely, but he was a multi-layered, complex, authentic person. An excellent, sad character study.

The thought does cross my mind that I could slip and end up cracking my head on the pavement just short of the pool, but if you're always going to worry about minor drawbacks, then you'll never accomplish anything.

To hell with tomorrow. To hell with all problems and barriers. Nothing matters but the Spectacular Now.

"You're not a bad guy, Sutter. You're a good guy. You just don't have a real firm grasp on the concept of consequences."
