I was disappointed by Bennett-Goleman. I did not feel there was a "map to freedom from self-defeating emotional habits". She constantly name drops and describes her own experiences as though that is the key to greater self understanding. It may be better to describe this book as a memoir of the author's personal journey of self discovery. I did find that I learned a lot from her husband's book "Emotional Intelligence" but I did not gain any insight from the wife's book.
