You say you want a better understanding of the background stories in Shakespeare, Dante', Milton, and Cervantes? Of modern fiction like Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code? Of the science of Psychology? Of the derivation of scientific terms like the "Proton"? Of the lyrics of rock groups like The Doors? Of the derivation of many modern products and corporate names, like Oracle Corporation? Of many modern movies? If you answer "yes" to any of these, this selection is well worth a listen. Quite simply, it's the best modern-English comprehensive presentation of Greek and Roman myths available, bar none. And these myths pervade popular Western culture in ways you'll never imagine until you understand them. The only struggle you might have as an audio book listener is digesting the amount of information presented. It's somewhat encyclopedic. The stories -- while best consumed in audio format rather than reading -- are still intertwined in a way that makes it difficult to totally understand one without first understanding the other. And vice-versa. You'll probably find that after listening to this set the first time you'll remain a tad confused. The solution? Pop CD number 1 back into the player and listen to the whole thing again. It makes a lot more sense on the second listen. For high school and college students especially, this book will save you a lot of grief if you can get it under your belt earlier rather than later. Highly recommended.
