Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fogletree just became number five. His body was found in the basement of a lakeside cabin he had built himself and frequently used on weekends. When he did not show up for a trial on Monday morning, his law clerks panicked, called the FBI, and in due course the agents found the crime scene. There was no forced entry, no struggle, just two dead bodies--Judge Fogletree and his young secretary. I did not know Judge Fogletree, but I know who killed him, and why. I am a lawyer, and I am in prison. It's a long story. --publisher.

This tightly plotted novel by John Grisham reminds why he's such a popular author. Malcolm Bannister is currently serving time at a federal prison camp in Maryland. When he tell the authorities that he knows who killed a federal judge, he becomes a protected witness. As the story rapidly unfolds, the reader is taken on a journey that reveals the many hidden complexities and relationships between witnesses, the FBI, and the judicial system. You're never quite sure who is the good guy and who is the bad guy...

Grisham is a consistently good author. This is another winner. 7 of 10 for me.

True Grisham form it was a little slow at first but I am glad I hung on to the end. There were enough twists to keep me interested all the way to the end.

Another Grisham tale with a twist...excellent book that keeps the reader guessing almost until the very end. The narrator on the audiobook was most excellent as well.

Really, really boring as an downloadable audiobook. Was like listening to a mundane news story. Ugh!

Just an average read. I used to Love John Grisham books however I find myself getting bored with them now. Same old, same old. I guess now, I'm looking for books that touch on my emotions somehow.

The story kind of wanders around for a while and in the middle you are not sure if you have picked up a new book or not.
