This book was awesome, cute, emotional, adventurous, and lovely. I really loved it.
For the first half of this book, I was in love. It was one of the best I'd read in a long time. Every page had me laughing or holding my breath. I'm not Christian, but it was light spirituality peppered through that I could enjoy. Well....I was extremely disappointed for the last half of the book. Around the time of the wedding, the plot entirely fell apart and began dragging forward and back. The author couldn't pick one disaster and stick with it, so there was a new one every chapter. Worst of all the characters started acting like dimwits. Even the way the Scripture passages were being interpreted stopped making sense. I think it was a very clear case of writer's block and needing to make a deadline. I tried to kind of imagine it was a choose-your-own-ending. I'm tempted to see if her other books are better, but afraid to find out.
This was a fantastic book by Witemeyer. The plot and characters are very fun. I have enjoyed all of Karen's books. Her motto that the world needs more happily-ever-afters is very true. Witemeyer's stories combine adventure, suspense, Texas settings, great morals, and loveable characters. For Witemeyer fans, Short-Straw Bride is the first installment in the Archer Brothers series.
JMJ.
I would say that this book was engaging, hooking, and kept me at the edge of my seat. With the exception that Travis swears in it, with it excluded, I would easily say that it was an ok read. I don't personally enjoy explicit material books and Old West romance books, or any book for that matter, are fine without it. God bless!
Fun reading for when you need something light.
Entertaining light chick-lit - just right for some holiday reading!
wow, after reading such opposing comments i'm checking this book out.
This book was cheesy Christian-romantic-fiction awesome-ness. Loved how the author played into the stereotype of the Texan sitting on the deck with a shot-gun at their side.
The Hero - Travis - was well written and actually had character development throughout the novel. The Heroine - Meredith - not so much. Near the end, when she refused to listen to reason (yet again) I was like "Seriously! Have you learned nothing?" However, I could accept the ridiculous, because that is what I was expecting out of the story.
I enjoyed the cast of supporting characters - the Archer Brothers are fun. Can't wait to read the next installment in the series. :)
@Einmyria you must have fallen asleep or something while reading this....after they got married, he was just being sweet and claiming her like, "I'm not gonna let anything happen to you." it wasn't abusive at all. Neither of their personalities changed either, it was just that it showed more of each of their thoughts than it did in the beginning. Maybe you should finish the book before you give it a bad rating...I LOVED this book and I can't wait to read more just like it!!!
