I was skeptical reading the first part of this beginning book by this author. After getting to the middle, and then the last part of the book, found it to be an interesting read. Suspense, mystery, history, artifacts, Alaskan territory, diving, redemption, faith, and romance.

Murder, lost treasure and faith can be found in the pages of this “can’t put down” book. The romance of the story is almost as heart-pounding as the danger the characters find themselves in. This is the first book in a Christian-faith series.

I was just recently introduced to Dani Pettrey when this book came onto Amazon kindle reading for free. I loved the book! It incorporated history with intrigue and romance and honestly was a book to just lose oneself in and not worry about the world around you.

A sabotaged plane. Two dead deep-water divers. One single clue.
Bailey Craig vowed never to set foot in Yancey, Alaska, again. She has a past, and a reputation--and Yancey's a town that doesn't forget. She's returned only to bury a loved one killed in the plane crash, but then dark evidence emerges and Bailey's own expertise becomes invaluable for the case.
Cole McKenna can face dangerous rescue dives. He can face the fear a murderer may be threatening his town. But facing the reality of Bailey's reappearance is a tougher challenge. She broke his heart... but doesn't seem to be the same girl who left Yancey ten years ago. And he's not the same guy she left behind.
Racing against the clock and a rising body count, Bailey and Cole must move beyond the hurts of their pasts to work together until the truth of what is hidden in the depths finally surfaces.

I read the second book, Shattered, before this one and I although I still enjoyed it I would recommend starting with Submerged first. There was a lot of history with the characters that I had previously missed out on. This is Dani's first book, I believe, and what a start to her career! She is right up there in my opinion with well known suspense authors such as Irene Hannon and Lynette Eason. And she's extra cool because she's a fellow homeschooling mom.

I was immediately sucked into the story and didn't want to come up for air until I was done, but of course I had to a couple of times. I loved that it was set in Alaska, and that the McKenna's owned a dive shop - not something you would expect in Alaska! They use dry suits but even so that water must be awfully cold.

I saw today that the next book in the series, Stranded, is coming out this fall and I can't wait to read it. I like it when a series follows different people each book, but the characters are somehow known or related in some way to the ones you've already read about in previous books. This series follows the McKenna siblings.
