As Desjani left, her back either at attention or just stiff, Geary spent a moment contemplating the unfairness of having to deal with relationship problems with a woman he couldn't have a relationship with.

"I'm human, Tanya."

"Of course you are. That what makes it heroic. Humans fear death and pain, and when we reach beyond that fear to protect others, we have done something to be proud of."

Another great military sci-fi read by Jack Campbell. These read like historical military battles recounted by the people that were there...right after the fact. Not a whole lot a time to embellish, still shell shocked, still in the "gotta do something" mode. It's fascinating...Next!
