If you are into genealogy or were wondering what the early 1900 immigrants went through to come to this country...especially as a teenager...then this book is for you. What makes it even more interesting, is that the main character, a young girl from the hills of Italy who was a streamstress - comes to America by herself and settles in Cleveland, Ohio to find her brother. All the trials and tribulations she went through, showed her strength and determination to perserve. Yes the book has some depressing spots but it is well worth the read. The book definitely ends on a positive note! This book would make a great book club read.

Beginning grabs you and stays interesting for most of the book. her tragedies seem to be of the same sort...gets kinds of predictable..and depressing.

Page turner , historical fiction with grit. I really had a hard time putting this story down to go about daily life! I wanted to know what was going to happen next in the lives of everyone, not just the main charachter.
