It can just be very small-scale. It could just be me and you.
- What could? My birthday party.
I have been trying to draw you out of yourself, in case you hadn't twigged. God, what's the worst that could happen? Kids eat some cake and we lift the grim bloody pallor of mortality for a few glorious moments.

When's he going to die?
-We'll look after him. Just like we look after everybody. I'm a little bit bored with you men and your problems at the moment, Edward. Sometimes you just have to learn to let things go.

What's the matter?
- I live in an old people's home!
So do I! It's not easy for anybody!

Eddie, some people don't die just like that, you know, not like Lilian. Some people, they take a bit longer. They fade.
- I know what senile is!

'I read it in The Daily Express. ' 90% of small businesses go down the tubes, apparently, in the first year. I should stop you reading that paper.
Bloke in Scarborough hung himself in his sporting goods shop.
-Yeah, but people don't need sporting goods. They're always going to get old, aren't they?

How much did that cost?
-You can't put a price on looking good, chucklebum.
How much is looking stupid?

"Samuel Peet - not dead, only sleeping. "
-He's gonna be pissed off when he wakes up.

I'm pissing against the wind. I'm drenching my mackintosh. You don't come back, son! Once they've gone, you can't talk to them! If I could just say to her, "I'm sorry. " If I could tell her I was bloody sorry, what a difference that would make.

Know what they're gonna say on my gravestone?
Here lies Clarence B Parkinson.
He was born, he effed it up
and then he died.

A melancholy lesson in life on family, regrets, loneliness, elderly care and deaths through the eyes of a young boy whose parents managed an old folks home. Nothing unusual but always a worthy topic on social responsibilities for those who paved the ways of our present and future. No subtitle, only captions which is mandatory for the regional British dialect.
It's possible that my problem with this DVD is somewhere in my equipment, but I don't think so, as I play many DVDs and use a noise cancelling headset. This DVD is so muffled that it's impossible to understand what the actors are saying.
The story is very jerky. Characters shout at each other for no reason. This viewer is left mystified. I agree with Joseph that this is a "dreadfully dull" movie--not worth the money spent on making it. I like Joseph's other comment, "I prayed for some life but this one was dead on arrival."
A magical look at life, death and love through the eyes of a boy living in a palliative care home.
Well worth watching.
Interesting little film. Low key with a few surprising moments, just like the reality of life :)
This film includes many good familiar British actors and Michael Caine's performance was superb. Unfortunately it was difficult to understand the dialogue at times.
Quiet, tender lessons in loving & caregiving & the importance of celebrating people's lives & the mystery of Life before death instead of after.
I found it hard to get into this movie and actually didn't stick it out to the end. Could have been, in part, because I found some of the dialogue difficult to hear/understand and there were no sub-title options.
I agree..not a big movie but definitely a good one. It's Michael Caine. Enough said.
Caine is superb.
Not a big movie, but a very good one
Skip It - Is Anybody There? (2008) 94 min. Michael Caine is a wonderful actor. Unfortunately, this picture is not wonderful. It’s dreadfully dull. The concept is interesting – a little boy curious about death as he witnesses death frequently by living in a home for the retired – Caine plays a retiree. I prayed for some life but this one was dead on arrival.
