Although the first season is MUCH better, this one has several highlights. Joan is still visited by God, but there are the additions of several characters. Sadly, Season 2 could have been much better, and I have no doubt that it would have lasted at least an additional year. The series seemed to have taken on a rougher tone, and dealt with situations that were unnecessary. The most disappointing thing was that the producers were obviously hoping for a season 3, which is evident in the season (and unfortunately series) finale, where there were many cliffhangers and loose threads. It seems these will never be resolved.

I was sorry this show lasted just two seasons; it would have been intriguing to see what they did with it just as Joan, an average teenager in an average town, was starting to confront real evil.
I loved that god appeared to Joan as the custodian at her school, or a child in a playground, or a woman on the bus -- ordinary folks.
I liked that the writers didn't make god specific to any one organized religion; there is no preaching in the series.
The conceit is that god gives Joan various perplexing assignments, for example, to try out for cheerleading even though Joan is not part of that crowd. There is always a lesson-within-the lesson, and the results are sometimes poignant, sometimes amusing, sometimes annoying.
The five family members each have their own story line. I liked Joan, her friends, her mother and brothers. Her father not so much. But still, a really good series.
