Few albums come into being in the aftermath of acrimonious suing between a performer and his or her songwriter, and that painfully shows. While the first two albums in the 'Bat Out of Hell' series benefited from a cohesive sense of vision, this release is clearly a mishmash and everything from musical style to lyrical subject to (most importantly of all) song quality varies significantly. A track from an abortive musical themed around Batman shows up, of all things, and it sounds as painfully out of place as one would expect. The hitmakers brought in to create the bulk of the album have created generally middling material that only partly captures the epic braggadocio of the first and second 'Bat' albums.

Despite all this, there remain many high points on the album. Duets "Its All Coming Back to Me Now" and "What About Love" alone make this worth picking up. Overall, there's about half of a really solid release here. Skip the first and last songs on the album in particular, and what remains is significantly improved and worth at least a few listens.
