Simon and Schuster

You've tried everything. Warm milk. Bedtime stories. Sharing your bed. But your child still has problems falling asleep. Dr. Richard Ferber can help. Director of the Sleep Laboratory and Center for Pediatric Sleep Disorders at Children's Hospital in Boston, Dr. Ferber is widely recognized as the nation's leading authority on children's sleep problems.

Practical and easy to understand, Solve Your Childs' Sleep Problems tells you how to handle these situations in children aged one to six:

* Refusing to go to bed
* Colic and other medical problems
* Restlessness and insomnia
* Night terrors
* Bedwetting
* Headbanging and body rocking

And other problems that keep you and your child awake in the night.

Based on six years of intensive research in a top medical facility, Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems is packed with tips, suggestions, sample problems and solutions, and a bibliography of children's "go-to-sleep" books.

So much more information than just the highly publicized "cry it out" method. I wasn't comfortable with letting my child cry at all but still found the information in the book to be REALLY valuable!

Friends couldn't believe how easily I put my kids to bed. This information is based on scientific evidence, and works great without being complicated. Plus, he covers unusual issues that some kids have. You don't need any other book about sleeping!

A recommended resource for baby sleep training. I found Ferber's diagrams and figures helpful in starting sleep training. I wish I had not avoided his advice for my child's first year! He's not the cry-it-out advocate I heard that he was (that's Dr. Weissbluth, and I don't like HIS approach of letting the baby cry indefinitely when doing sleep training). This book suited our needs nicely, and it worked. It's amazing how much more rested and happy we all are now that our 15 month old goes to sleep almost immediately upon us putting him in his crib at 7pm, and he can sleep a good 12 hours! He seems to appreciate the routine, too.

Dr. Ferber is unfairly maligned in a lot of "attachment parenting" web communities. But I wish I had read this book first instead of the others that friends recommended (especially Baby Whisperer, No-Cry Sleep Solution) that are so popular, but more dogmatic and not as evidence-based as this approach. This book offers practical suggestions for virtually any sleep problem, backed up with case studies from real families. A must read for all parents.

Great book! It can be dry in places but having all of the background information especially helps when you are trying to shift a schedule. Our daughter never slept without holding and/or rocking right from the first night in the hospital. We tried The Baby Whisperer and The No Cry Sleep Solution first. While they seem to be a gentle approach to sleep training I was too tired to be consistent and kept falling into old habits just to get some sleep (4 hours in total not in one stretch was a good night). With this method by the third night she slept for 11 hours and didn't cry at all. She woke for one feeding and at her other brief wakings just went back to sleep in minutes. Thank you Dr. Ferber!

Very informative, but I found too dry to read for very long.
