A compilation of long forgotten film footage and newsreels, produced by the Nazis and French collaborators during World War II. From the small town of Vichy in Central France, Field Marshall Petain's puppet government worked with their Nazi overlords in creating pro-Nazi propaganda. They skillfully produced a strange alternative history of the war years in order to turn public emotion against the Allies and the Jews.

After abandoning France at Dunkirk and withholding planes against the southward German advance, Britain attacked the French fleet, tried to seize Dakar, and bombed French workers to deny manufactured goods to Germany. This film shows the widespread anti-British feeling that resulted.

This is a 1993 documentary directed by Claude Chabrol.
It is about propaganda produced by Nazi-occupied France during World War II from 1940 to 1944.
It contains authentic newsreels, advertisements, and feature-film footage produced by the Nazis and their collaborators.
The film, however, doesn't show what was really going on at the time the newsreels and propaganda films were made, though Mr. Chabrol's own voice-over narration bridges most of those gaps.

An informative and interesting perspective on the Nazi propaganda within the Vichy government. Not sure how many French people swallowed this at the time but it turned my stomach off when watching it. Thank you Chabrol for this historical piece! Lets not forget!
