behind the mystery. Evil corporations, grasping individuals, there was some human in a rubber suit marching around that the meddling kids unmask. In this version of the story, four kids and a dog solved mysteries. All of the mysteries.…

Not sure it's worth a full 3.5 stars, but I just have to reward the concept, audacity and heart. Stunning drag-you-in prologue. After the first few chapters, you're allowed to care for the main characters (and especially the dog). …

Not all monsters are people wearing Halloween masks. Some are real. That's what this updated, adult version of Scooby-Doo asks: what if the Scooby-Doo Gang grew up- and were (literally) haunted by the mysteries they solved? In this…

Scooby-Doo (specifically the first live-action movie) meets Lovecraft in an often hilarious tale of what happens when you chase down that one last case that you didn't quite solve. There are some odd narrative choices here and there -…

Was not my jam. Couldn’t get past first fee pages due to author’s writing style. Bummer bc the plot seemed interesting.

This fast paced supernatural horror is delightfully campy. Cantero is a wordsmith; though his neologisms and switching between narrative styles will seem clunky to some.

Hilarious and creepy- a gang of kid detectives and their dog, all grown up and survivors of the various traumas of adulthood, return to revisit their last great mystery when it becomes clear that it wasn't just a man in a mask after all.…

Imagine the kids from Scooby-Doo all grown up and haunted by the eldritch horrors they encountered on their last case, and you have a pretty solid start into this book. The meta-comedy and Lovecraftian monsters combine for a spine-tingling…

Mostly I read MG / YA books. I diverted into the adult for this one, and was glad I did. I loved it! I loved the way Cantero played on the Nancy Drew / Hardy Boys trope of the meddling kids (who commit downright crimes to solve crimes, if…

"MEDDLING KIDS": A Tina Trotsky Mystery Review (by Reed Beebe) Teen detective Tina Trotsky had set an elaborate after-school trap for Palmetto High's "swamp monster" (whom Tina suspected was really the creepy custodian, trying to scare…

This book really sucked me in. The first time that the prose switched to straight up dialogue script it did throw me off for a second, but I quickly got over it. This book is lightning quick and super smart, and despite the Scooby Doo…

Listen, this book isn't that good. It wasn't the writing style for me (though many would be put off by the abrupt shuffling back and forth between traditional prose and a screenplay-style format), it was that it read like an unedited debut…

Scooby-Doo + Enid Blyton + Lovecraft = this book! An exploration of what could happen if they caught the wrong person, and there really is a monster.

A lovely homage to Scooby Doo with a dash of Lovecraftian horror.

I am not a big horror fan, but this book had me hooked from the beginning. Just the premise of ‘those meddling kids and their dog’ fascinated me. And this is indeed Scooby-Doo all grown up. With an interesting writing style, Cantero…

This is a book I just can't put away, have read it twice now and very seriously considering getting a copy for my own shelf so I can have another go whenever I'd like. Writing style certainly gets a bit clunky at times (dipping frequently…

Unusually for me, I didn't like this much at first but by the end I really liked it!

A great premise that stutters under an awkward writing style but has enough cheap action and snarky humor to carry it through. It's not out to win any prizes, but if you'd like to see the Scooby-Doo gang take on eldritch horror this just…

This book was great! Equal parts Scooby Do, Stephen King's IT, and HP Lovecraft fan fic. The writing is irreverent and intimate with periods of creepy narrative punctuated by heart-racing action. This was a very fun read.

I had a blast with his style of writing; it's engaging and unique. The descriptions are so eye-catching! However, I thought the plot was just mediocre (expecting more of a mystery/adventure), and although there was action and intrigue, the…

Mystery Inc grown up! For anyone that loved Scooby Doo as a child, you'll love the connections to this book. Great fun, and just the right amount of scary.

As others have stated; looks like it'd be good for the family, but really has adult themes throughout. The author, even though not American, obviously watched a great deal of American TV during his formative years. This rip roaring tale of…

A very clever premise where the "Scooby Doo Gang" is grown up and revisits the scene of their last case, which haunts them all still in various guises. There's a lot of clever hat tips to Scooby Doo, and other mysteries written for…
