Excellent combination of a mystery and a spy novel. There are actually a couple of mysteries that may or may not be connected. One of the best books in this series which keeps getting better as the author continues to write them.

Munich, 1938. Maisie Dobbs is asked by the British government to aid in rescuing a well-known businessman / inventor from a German concentration camp. The underlying plot is forgiveness. Can Maisie forgive those who have caused her severe…

This was an enjoyable read with tension throughout the book. This is a book in the Maisie Dobbs detective series, but I enjoyed it without reading too many of its predecessors. There were many occurrences in the novel where the author…

1938 and Maisie travels from England to Germany to impersonate a prisoner's daughter and thereby secure his release from Germany. The books have a formula and can be a little tedious, but still a good story and there are thoughtful…

Maisie Dobbs is patriotic with nerves of steel as she outwits the nazis.

A particularly complex plot, perhaps too much so. Some professional reviews call Maisie "prissy" and "humorless." Under the circumstances of impersonating a woman she doesn't know, and being in Nazi Germany with not just one but two…

One of the best Maisie stories. Very timely look at the strange days that brought Hitler to power even though he was NOT loved by the people. We are spared the complete rehash of all her earlier career, loves, and losses that for a wile…

This is the first Maisie Dobbs novel I've read, and though the story was Interesting, for detective stories I prefer the writing of Alexander McCall Smith or Agatha Christie.

After a few lack lustre entries with this character I was pleased and very much enjoyed the latest adventure. I'm now looking forward to the next instalment.

I enjoyed this book very much. Maisie Dobbs is a great character, and her time in Nazi Germany is spine-tingling. It is also positive to see Maisie embracing life again after her tragic losses. I am already looking forward to the next…

Reviewed in the Stratford Gazette, July 2016. It's nice that Winspear doesn't let us in on all Maisie's thoughts and still unfolds the action at a decent pace. It's like Foyles War, but with a woman in the lead. I'm waiting for…

I am a relative newcomer to the Maisie Dobbs series but am thoroughly enjoying them and looking forward to seeing further adventures unfold...

I have been a fan of Maise Dobbs since the beginning. This was the most exciting of all the books so far! I was so tense reading it, worrying about whether she would be safe in Munich or not. Highly recommend it. Very fun read.

Maisie impersonates an imprisoned man's daughter for Special Branch who the Nazis will only release to his family. Thought this good, but think I need to move on from World War II reading. The good guys and bad guys are all seeming the…

A new author for me, and one I will probably read again. I jumped into this series at the 12th book, and although I enjoyed the book, I think I may have got even more out of it, if I had started properly at the beginning. There were many…

I am kind of amazed that Maise gets away with some of the stuff she does. It just seems extraordinary that she isn't killed, imprisoned or at least maimed in some way. This story was good but not great. I'm not as partial to the tales…

JOURNEY TO MUNICH is another solid addition to the Maisie Hobbs books. I look forward to each new release in this intelligent historical/mystery series by the talented Jacqueline Winspear.

Winspear and her publisher have turned out a first class book. For openers the cover art is art -- well researched down to the seams in Maisie's stockings, and appealing. At the beginning of the book, Maisie appears still to be feeling…

Winspear does it again, writing another excellent book featuring Maisie Dobbs. As a character, Maisie has grown so much since the first book, and it is truly a treat to read each one and see how she will continue to develop. After a…

This series is wonderful, but should be read in sequence. Lovers of history will enjoy this look into one primary life and several peripheral lives in (up to now) England between WWI and II.
